calorie tower
“The Calorie Tower is more than just a building; it's a catalyst for a future where architecture serves as a conduit for physical activity and social bonding.”
In a world driven by technology and social media, the way we spend our time is evolving across all age groups. Tracking and sharing daily activities and sports with friends is as simple as a click, leading to a shift towards more diverse, active, and outdoor pursuits. We're gradually moving away from a sedentary, mall-centered society to one that thrives on movement and connection.
Supermachine Studio is exploring this transformation, questioning how we will live in the near future. Taking inspiration from our previous project, The Labyrinth for SCG, we redefined the concept of "playground." No longer just a space for children, we envisioned it as a dynamic meeting place for all ages. In The Labyrinth, fun comes from running up and down the concrete structure, and hiding and seeking within its twists and turns. This physical interaction fosters real-world connections, replacing virtual chats on screens with genuine human encounters. Completing a loop in The Labyrinth burns 10 kilocalories, making it an architectural marvel that promotes active movement and social interaction.

Enter the Calorie Tower—a visionary structure designed for the society of tomorrow. This tower challenges the conventional architectural focus on efficiency and quick access, embracing instead the philosophy of detours and endless possibilities. It's a space where community members can come together, meet, and engage in active, meaningful interactions.
The Calorie Tower is more than just a building; it's a catalyst for a future where architecture serves as a conduit for physical activity and social bonding. It's a place where the journey is as important as the destination, where every step taken within its walls contributes to a healthier, more connected community. As we look ahead, the Calorie Tower stands as a symbol of a new way of living—one that prioritizes movement, interaction, and the joy of shared experiences.
“Imagine…We're gradually moving away from a sedentary, mall-centered society to one that thrives on movement and connection.”
