Our proposal includes transforming a portion of this area into an exhibition dedicated to Jim Thompson himself, showcasing his pivotal role in introducing Thai silk to the global market. This exhibition will offer an in-depth look at his contributions, personal artifacts, and the fascinating story of how he transformed Thai silk into a renowned international brand. The silk shop undergoes a complete redesign and expansion to the upper floor, featuring a new interior spiral staircase that replaces the old exterior one. This staircase guides visitors down to additional retail sections, making the shopping experience more integrated and dynamic.

This design seamlessly integrates modern elements with the historic charm of the Jim Thompson House, creating a captivating and enriching experience for all who visit. By maintaining the integrity of the original structures while introducing contemporary features, the redesign honors the legacy of Jim Thompson and ensures that his story continues to inspire and attract future generations. The new layout not only enhances the visitor journey but also reinforces the cultural and historical significance of the Jim Thompson House, making it a premier destination for those seeking to explore the rich heritage of Thai silk and architecture.

The Jim Thompson House compound stands as one of Bangkok's most iconic attractions, drawing in both locals and tourists. This historic site, known for the enigmatic disappearance of its founder Jim Thompson in 1967, offers a unique glimpse into traditional Thai architecture and the legacy of Thai silk. The charm and mystery surrounding Jim Thompson's life and disappearance have made this location a must-visit, adding a layer of intrigue and allure to its cultural and historical significance.

In 2021, the Thai Silk Company, which manages the Jim Thompson brand, embarked on a mission to enhance the visitor experience at this renowned location. Supermachine Studio was chosen to bring this vision to life. Our innovative design aims to breathe new life into two smaller southern houses, previously used as office space, by seamlessly connecting them with a new covered staircase. This extension leads visitors to the second floor of a newer building that once served as an event space. The design not only respects the historical essence of the compound but also aims to create a more fluid and engaging journey for visitors, enhancing their overall experience.
